14-Day Private Itinerary
Two weeks is where Sri Lanka stops being a checklist. You keep the ancient cities, Kandy and the hill country, then let the season decide the rest — the dry east coast and Trincomalee from May to September, or the deep south with its beaches and safaris the rest of the year. There's room for a rest day without guilt.

When the island finally slows you down
Give the island two weeks and it changes character. There's finally time to go deeper into the Cultural Triangle, add Horton Plains in the hills, take the tea country slowly, and spend real days on the coast instead of snatched afternoons. It's the length we'd book for a honeymoon, a second visit, or anyone who genuinely dislikes rushing.
The clever part is the back half, which follows the weather rather than fighting it. The plan below is the December-to-April version, leaning on the southern beaches and safaris. From May to September we flip the coast portion to Trincomalee and the east — dry and beautiful in exactly those months, and conveniently close to the Cultural Triangle, so the loop still flows without doubling back.
When to go
Runs all year because the route follows the weather. December to April it leans south; May to September it swings east to Trincomalee, which is dry and glorious then.
Best for
Travellers who want the island properly. Second visits, honeymoons, and anyone who hates rushing.
Maybe not for
Short holidays. If you've only a week, the ten-day route folds down more honestly than this one stretches up.
Day by day
A real, drivable plan — not a wish list. Every day flexes around your pace, and nothing here is fixed in stone. It's the starting point we shape with you.
Met at the airport and driven north with lunch on the way. An easy first evening in the Cultural Triangle.
Overnight: Sigiriya / Habarana
The Lion Rock at dawn, a restful midday, and a late-afternoon jeep safari at Minneriya or Kaudulla for the elephants.
Overnight: Sigiriya / Habarana
Polonnaruwa's ruined royal city by bicycle in the cool of the morning, then the golden cave temples at Dambulla. A day steeped in a thousand years of history, taken at a walking pace.
Overnight: Sigiriya / Habarana
The oldest of the ancient capitals, and still a living pilgrimage site. Vast dagobas, the sacred Bo tree grown from a cutting of the one the Buddha sat under, and far fewer crowds than the headline sites.
Overnight: Sigiriya / Habarana
Into the hills, a spice garden if it appeals, and Kandy for the afternoon — the Temple of the Sacred Tooth and a walk by the lake, with an optional dance performance in the evening.
Overnight: Kandy
The climb past Ramboda Falls into the tea terraces, a stop at a working factory, and the cool colonial air of Nuwara Eliya by evening.
Overnight: Nuwara Eliya
An early start for the plateau, where the trail leads to World's End — a sheer drop with the plains laid out far below, clearest before the mid-morning mist rolls in. An afternoon to recover in town.
Overnight: Nuwara Eliya
The famous ride through the tea hills to Ella while we bring the car round to meet you. The rest of the day is yours to settle in.
Overnight: Ella
Nine Arch Bridge, Little Adam's Peak and Ravana Falls, done at a pace that leaves room for a long lunch and a slow afternoon.
Overnight: Ella
Out of the hills to a safari — Yala for the leopard chance, Udawalawe for reliable elephants — and on to the south coast for the first of several nights by the sea.
Overnight: Tissamaharama / Mirissa
A morning whale-watching trip from Mirissa in season, or a surf lesson at Weligama if it isn't. The afternoon is for doing very little, which after ten days you'll have earned.
Overnight: Mirissa
The Dutch ramparts of Galle Fort, its cafés and boutiques, and the calm bay at Unawatuna for a swim. Sunset on the fort walls is the postcard everyone takes home.
Overnight: Galle / Unawatuna
A relaxed run up the coast, with the option of a Madu River boat safari or the turtle hatcheries near Bentota on the way. An evening in Colombo or near the airport, depending on your flight.
Overnight: Colombo / Negombo
A short transfer to the airport, unhurried, at the end of a trip that gave the island the time it actually deserves.
Season note — December–April: south coast and Galle. May–September: the coast leg swings to Trincomalee and the dry, brilliant east.

Mainly the back half. From December to April the route leans on the southern beaches, safaris and Galle. From May to September, when the south-west is wet, we flip that portion to Trincomalee and the east coast — dry and beautiful in those months, and close enough to the Cultural Triangle that the loop still flows.
